Your Brand: Your Most Valuable Asset

What do you think is your company’s most valuable asset?
It is your brand!

Corporations spend tens of thousands of dollars and even millions of dollars on branding. Think about the “big guys” out there—the Targets and Visas and Starbucks, to name a few. They jealously guard their images. They trademark their logos and slogans. And they go after violators with a vengeance.

They know that their branding is their most important asset.

So why should you, as a business owner think any less?

Unfortunately, many small business owners gravitate to logos and branding that is cheap and free. In fact, some business owners don’t even know what branding is!

They put their business name in Helvetica and that’s the extent of it.

A good brand is more than finding a pretty or cool logo. Or going to a cheap and free resource that will give you templates and all you do is plug in your information.

The problem with these resources is it is not tailor-made to your unique business. It is not customized so that your prospects will easily recognize you.

It’s kind of like being lost in a sea of “cookie cutter” homes. Where I live, there are plenty of them! Every time I go in one of these neighborhoods, I get lost because I can’t tell the difference between one house and the next.

It’s the same with your logo and branding. If your logo looks the same as your competition, your prospect will be lost. There’s nothing to distinguish you from the crowd. This is especially problematic with the Internet.

But when you base a logo on strategic analysis, on your Unique Selling Point, your mission, target market, and other factors, you will be building a brand that brings value. This will mean an increase in your bottom line!

Because if you don’t take your business seriously, your prospects won’t take you seriously. That is what a poorly-constructed logo or brand communicates. The opposite is true, too—If you take your business seriously, your prospects will take you seriously. They will feel comfortable in doing business with you.

That’s what branding is all about. It’s about creating a sense of relationship and trust between your customer and you. It’s about building a certain comfort level. It’s about offering them a memorable picture that represents your company so that you come to the forefront in their minds when they need what you have to offer.

That is powerful indeed, and that will bring you branding in success!

Graphic Design Portfolio–My Latest Work

Graphic Design Portfolio–Here’s a snapshot of some of my latest work.

Every week, I plan on doing a little show ‘n tell time. This weekly feature will display some of my latest work and explain the process of creativity.

Last month, I had the privilege of working on a book cover design for my client Tammie Polk.

Adobe Photoshop PDF

Since the book was inspired by Proverbs 31, I decided to find a red cloth background. To me, that encapsulated the character of the woman the chapter describers. I like to call her “Ruby.”

I found a picture of a pleasant business woman looking up to the sky. It contrasted well with the red background. I wanted an ornate silver frame to give it a feminine touch.

My font choice combined feminine with class and a touch of bling. I chose an outer glow around the letters B and W and made those letters bigger to give it more punch.

I tucked “The Virtuous” within “Business Woman” to give it a grounded look. It is a neat, tight unit. Classy and readable.

For the back cover, I used drop cops to make the cover attractive. I copied the red cloth layer and cut out the middle portion, feathering it and lowering the opacity so the lower red cloth layer can be seen. I made sure the contrast was high enough to still be readable.

Last report from my customer was that this book was leading to some amazing opportunities for her. I would imagine that the professional cover had a little bit to do with this!

Branding Definition – What It Is And 3 Ways to Make Your Brand Sizzle!

What is a brand? Why should you care? And how can you make that brand sizzle?

Today, I am going to share with you a branding definition and explain why it’s important and what you can do about it.

A brand is an image or identity that captures the essence of who you are as a business. It includes a logomark and your business name.

Face it. On the Internet, image is everything. Your prospects will only look at your site for a few seconds until they make a decision to stay or go. This is usually decided based on first impressions. And if you don’t have a brand that distinguishes you from other companies, you will make no sales, have no conversions.

As a graphic designer and Internet marketer, I have a unique vantage point in creating brands that sizzle. I understand thoroughly how to construct a logo and I know the importance of making that brand visible across the Web.

So how can you make your brand sizzle? Keep reading to find out!

3 Ways You Can Make Your Brand Sizzle!

1) Build your brand from your passions

A brand identity is all about the essence of who you are. Spend some time brainstorming on the answer to key questions like, “What am I in business for?”, “What makes my product or service different than my competition?”, “What is my personality and how do I want it reflected in my business?”

A brand is more than a perceived image. It is about who you are, what you do, and whom you serve. Making your brand a reflection of your passions, purpose, and mission for your business will build credibility for your brand. This in turn will build profits.

Your brand will truly sizzle!

2) Know your audience

If you aim at nothing, you will hit at nothing. You cannot possibly be all things to all people.

Niche marketing, or affinity marketing, is very powerful. Decide in detail who your audience/target market is. Who are you in business for? Who can most benefit from your product or service? Whom do you have an affinity for? Who can you relate to?

Also ask questions like, what is their income level, education level, gender, age, marital status, interests, etc. The more specific you are, the better. If it helps, even cut out a picture of your ideal prospect and post the picture on your monitor. When you create your brand, create it for that person. And additionally, when you write an article, or send an email, or produce a video, create that marketing piece for your ideal target market!

Finding a pain point of your audience and finding a way to solve that problem is one of the best ways to build your brand. If you can communicate to your audience in that way you will have a brand that sizzles!

3) Create a unique logo design

Beware of services that promise images for cheap and free. Why? Because these images are not specifically tailored to your Unique Selling Proposition, target market, or message you want to get across.

Plus, cheap or free logos look all alike! You will not stand out above the crowd. If you feel you must use one of these due to budget constraints, at the very least understand the process behind creating a logo for your brand.

If you do not treat your logo seriously by putting some time and effort or investment into it, it will reflect poorly on your business. Why should your prospects take you seriously when you don’t take yourself seriously?

So what about your logo? Are you proud to show it off or do you know you can do better? Invest in the look of your logo and your brand will sizzle!
