Brand Identity Design–How an Effective Logo Can Skyrocket Your Revenues

A recent consultation with a potential client got me thinking… What is the difference between a logo and a brand and why should you, as a business owner, care?

A LOGO is a symbol that describes a company, product, organization, or idea. It usually is comprised of a name and an image. Sometimes the logo is only the lettering itself.

A BRAND is an emotional connection, a kinship, that a company, product, organization, or artist has with a target market. A brand encapsulates the essence of an entity’s reason for being and communicates to an audience what is unique about it. An effective brand builds trust and credibility over time with its intended target market. It is a living relationship.

A LOGO encapsulates a brand’s message through visual means. But not all logos reflect a brand or reflect a brand accurately.

So why should you care about this difference?

If you only put a logo up that does not represent your brand, you will be missing out on leads, conversions, sales, and profits.

With a logo that does not communicate effectively your marketing message, your Unique Selling Proposition, you will confuse your prospects.

A logo that effectively reflects your BRAND will attract your prospects to you. Instead of pushing them in, you will be pulling them in.

You will create effective name recognition for your brand with a professional logo that accurately reflects who you are as a business. You will be building trust, credibility, and a living, engaging relationship.

And that will truly make your brand sizzle and your future dazzle because you will see increased revenues!

Building a Brand–It’s All About Mindset

dreamstimefree_168262Let me be brutally honest here. I’ve been hiding under my covers all day, running from my responsibilities as a brand expert.

You see, sometimes I get scared. I have huge dreams, and they seem impossible.

Because after all, who am I to achieve these lofty ideas? How am I even remotely worthy?

These are the voices that coaxed me all day, to convince me that I can’t succeed. That if I did succeed, then what? It’s the little voice that tells me the big lie: “you are just a fat housewife. No one wants to listen to you.”

But then I hear my nephew, now my apprentice, talking to a friend on the phone. “God loves you, man,” he says. “no matter what you do.”

Even if I hide behind a novel all day long?

Yes! I know in a heartbeat that this message said for his desperate friend is also for me. It puts new life in me, a new determination.

You see, a few months ago, I received a blow. My world was shattered and it forced me to reevaluate everything about my life and business. I took a sabbatical from work so I could concentrate on my marriage and my husband’s business.

In many ways, this revelation was a relief to me. In all candor, I am not where I want to be. I am not, in life, where I expected myself to me. Something has always held me back. I kept circling down toward the answer, like peeling off the layer of an onion.

And at the bottom of it all, I found out it wasn’t really me. It wasn’t my fault. It wasn’t even my mindset that held me back ultimately, although that was part of it.

But, looking back, I am not where I was. So much growth has taken place. I am not the same person. My marriage is stronger. I am stronger. My business will be stronger and because of what I went through, I will be able to help more people in more profound ways.

The challenges seem like I have to move mountains. Frankly, I didn’t have the energy for that today. I wanted a day of escape. I didn’t want to think of the multitude of mounting problems that face me.

Yet, as the challenges are daunting, the opportunities are vast. So much I have learned. I have come so far. Even so far as to be bold and speak about what I do in an atmosphere I once would have found intimidating.

I spoke about it with passion and ease, just explaining how I helped women launch their businesses through remote coaching.

As I described my programs and what I do, doors started opening before me I never thought possible. I found that I was wanted. I had something valuable and powerful that could not only build my business, but deeply touch the lives of many women all over the world.

I don’t know how this opportunity is going to turn out. I have shrunk today in my own little escapist world by reading an historical novel. But tomorrow I must get back in the fray, caught between the juxtaposition of reaching for a pinnacle of success and wading through a ton of irritating hurdles to get there. Caught between the juxtaposition of fear of failure and fear of success.

One thing I know as I finished my book tonight, disappointed in the ending, in the lack of growth in the main character–I want to meet these challenges with boldness, confidence, grace, and strength. I want this experience to grow me, my business, and help others grow in the process.

Because building a brand takes confidence. Not just in yourself. It takes faith. Faith to move a mustard seed. To move a mountain. And that takes faith in God.

Online Business–3 Web Resources

HomeworkIn today’s blog, I’m going to do something a little different. I’m going to let you know about some resources to help you create a stellar Website for your online business. Your Website is your ticket to a sizzling brand and dazzling future. These days a Website is absolutely essential, no matter what kind of business you have. But it’s especially important if you have an online business.

What I am going to share is my experience of hard knocks. My background is in print design, so translating that to Web design has been a learning curve.

So here are three of my favorite resources. I will share more resources as the weeks go on.

1) Design shack website

Last week I stumbled upon a really helpful blog on the subject. It inspired me so much that now I have finally begun the process of re-designing my Websites.

This article described exactly how to design a Website. I don’t mean step by step, I mean the guiding principles behind how a design should look. This was extremely helpful to me and I learned a lot. This tip will vastly improve your online business.

You can read this article by clicking here. http://designshack.net/articles/layouts/10-rock-solid-website-layout-examples/

2) Hosting companies

My favorite hosting companies are Rage Software, GoDaddy, and Hostgator. I use Hostgator and Rage to host my websites. I get my domains from GoDaddy. While I have heard that Hostgator has been down a few times recently, I have never had a problem with Rage. I like using a couple of hosting companies so that if there is a problem, not all of my sites will be unavailable.

The one critique that I have heard about GoDaddy is that it is likely to be labeled as a source for spam. I would not recommend using one of their build-a-websites. I started out this way with my first website and let me tell you, it was atrocious!

You get what you pay for. When you use a template, it is extremely difficult to customize your site. If your site looks unprofessional, it will not get the attention that it needs to succeed. From my experience, a template from GoDaddy made my Website look “cookie cutter.” There was nothing to differentiate it from other sites. This is especially important if you have an online business.

3) Autoresponders and shopping carts

Now the big three are InfusionSoft, AWeber, and AutoWebBusiness.com.

I have been using AutoWebBusiness.com for several years now. I like it because I can sell digital and physical products, track sales, make recurring orders, send newsletters, and set up long series of automatic emails. I can also track ads, have a shopping cart, and maintain several mailing lists. All these are crucial for an online business.

You can integrate a merchant account with Autoweb, including PayPal. You can maintain an image and document library on their servers. It’s fairly easy to understand and doesn’t require much coding knowledge.

It is, however, fairly pricey. But not compared to InfusionSoft and AWeber. For what it delivers, the price is very reasonable.

As far as other services, I have used Constant Contact in the past. While it was a pretty good service and I liked their templates, I found it extremely frustrating to maintain two separate lists on two separate services. I decided to sreamline and just have the listing service with Autoweb.

Increase Business–3 Reasons Why Direct Sellers and Network Marketers Need a Brand

Make money immediately imageYou want to increase business and you represent a company as a direct seller or network marketer. Your home office takes care of your branding. Your business cards come from them and they supply you with your marketing materials that you need to promote your business.

But what if you’re missing something? What if there’s a better way to increase business? An effective way you never thought about?

In this article, I am going to explain why you, as an associate of another company, need to have your own brand, beyond the brand that you are selling.

But first of all, what is a brand?

Even some well-seasoned business owners don’t understand what branding is. And no, it’s not just what cattle ranch owners do to their cattle!

But it is a mark that distinguishes you from above the competition. It signifies ownership. It builds name recognition. A brand is more than a logo. It is a relationship between you and your target market. And yes, it will increase business!

That’s what marketing is all about. It is getting the word out about what you do to your prospects so you will be top of mind when they want to make a purchasing decision.

So if you are representing a company, why do you need your own brand? Here are three very good reasons!

1) You will distinguish yourself above your competition.

As a rep, you are not the only resource available for your particular product. In fact, there is a danger that the market can be saturated. How can you distinguish yourself and increase business? By branding.

For instance, if you sell a certain type of wellness product, you can brand yourself as a wellness expert. You can provide value to your customer beyond the particular item that you are selling. If you provide them value as a wellness consultant, your prospect is more likely to look to you for advice. You will be building trust and a relationship. When they need or want your product, they will think of you.

Now of course, a wellness expert is just one example. Perhaps another way to brand yourself is a relationship expert. This would be an ideal branding strategy if you sell gift items.

2) If the company goes bankrupt, your business will still thrive.

The harsh reality is that businesses fail. Some go through a restructuring process and then you are left in the lurch while the company works out the details. I’ve heard of many cases where this has happened.

Don’t let this potential problem sink you! By creating your own independent brand, you can build a customer base that will follow you no matter what company you are representing. If the worst case scenario happens, you will be okay because you can adapt to the change and bring your customers along with you! And you will still increase business!

3) You can change passions over time or have flexibility to add more businesses.

As human beings, our interests change over time. Perhaps five years down the road you will realize that you don’t love selling that particular item anymore. Something else may come along that excites you more. Or you may find other products that work in tandem with what you are offering now.

In either case, by having your own separate brand you are able to grow and change with ease. You will have a customer base that grows with you. And you will increase business!

So creating an independent brand for yourself is well worth the time and effort. The return on the investment you will make is absolutely priceless! Because then you will have a sizzling brand and dazzling future!

Create a Publicity Campaign to Gain Visibility in Your Market!

angelcovernew
The cover of my book project.

Maybe you are going gangbusters with your marketing. But you may have forgotten a very important part of your strategy to getting the word out about what you do.

What is that? A publicity campaign.

Why should you do a publicity campaign? It is a very effective way to increase your visibility in the marketplace, especially in your own community.

How do you do a publicity campaign? Let me answer that question by describing the publicity campaign that I am involved in right now.

This fall I have been promoting a fundraising book to help Colorado survivors of recent floods and fires. The idea to create this book was born out of my desire to help my community. I wanted to contribute my giftings so those affected by the disasters would receive help and those who read the book would be inspired and uplifted in the midst of uncertain, troubled times.

After I shared my idea with key mentors in my life, I received tremendous encouragement to move forward with the project. Now, you have to know this about me: normally I am a person who likes to be in the background. When given a choice, I prefer to sit in a back seat, unnoticed and in the shadows. But this tendency would not work for this project. In order to help people, I recognized I needed to play a bigger game. I had to step out of my comfort zone.

So I invested in a local media list, did some research on writing press releases, and am about half way done sending them out. And I am beginning to see results!

Now what started as a desire to reach out the community will result in my company receiving publicity in my region. That to me is a side benefit. This in turn will benefit me because I will no longer be a company “in the shadows.” Plus, this gives me credibility with my national followers. I am getting brand visibility!

Furthermore, as I worked on this book project, I realized that I am only just starting in this endeavor. I have a vision of creating a whole series of fundraising books for many different groups of people who need help. This excites me. I had no idea when I started out with this project that I was creating a long-lasting product that would benefit so many people and add revenue to my company as well. Because while the first project all the profits will go to organizations that help survivors, I realize that with subsequent books I will be giving a portion of my profits instead. If I didn’t, I would not be in business for long!

So for me, building a publicity campaign and writing press releases has helped me tremendously in achieving brand visibility. And I know it will serve as a foundation for future projects to come.

How can you take advantage of this idea? Think of how you can be involved in the community. How can you offer your gifts and talents to help those in need? How can you make an impact in your region or industry? What are the needs in your area?

Or perhaps you have found an innovative way to solve a problem. How can you make this into a newsworthy event? In fact, what kind of event can you create that will be newsworthy? Is there a contest that you can enter? If you win, especially in your region, you will get a ton of publicity! That happened to me in 2007. I won a logo contest and my work was seen by thousands of people and the local paper did an article about me.

A publicity campaign that will help bring brand awareness is only limited by your imagination! Do this and your brand will sizzle and your future will dazzle!

Coming next week: information and resources on writing press releases.
